——— Comments (2)Key :Laurence :Gene Sperling talked about President Bush's tax cuts not being paid for. I was under the impression that tax revenues are at an all time high and have increased since the 2003 cuts at a rate higher than inflation. They may not be paid for by static accounting methods but they have more than paid for themselves in reality. Like the 1980s, tax revenues are up but spending is up even more. It is not the tax cuts that have to be paid for but the excess spending. One aspect of Pay-Go that was not explored was that the cost of a tax cut had to be made up by other taxes OR spending cuts. Unfortunately, spending cuts were never on the table. Also Gene Sperling did not mention the entitlement crunch and its effect upon the national debt. Right now, we have a 9.2 trillion debt of which 3.7 trillion are unfunded trust funds with the largest being the 2.2 trillion payroll tax funds. Fred Thompson seems to be the only candidate willing to explicitly address this issue. Entitlements eat up about 40% of the budget and that percent will grow. I am a FredHead but would be content to vote for Guiliani or Romney. McCain would give me pause and Huckabee would be out of the question. Comments have been archived for this page. |

Your interview with Rudy was very superficial! It is like you haven't heard a word he's been saying for the last year!
