Dear Quaternity,
I think this "creep" on campaigning is due in part because, as far as the Democrats and their allies in the media are concerned, Bush was never legitimately elected in 2000. They think his whole tenure in office has been a fraud, and so they have been in great haste to effectuate what they consider to be the true restoration. That Kerry failed in the "treatment" in 2004 only amplifies their zeal.
